Sensative Spots
- Head (eyes, ears, nose, muzzle, and lips)
- Legs
- Belly/Flanks
Facial Markings
- Faint - A permanent marking that’s not always easily spotted and usually consists of a few white hairs without any underlying pink skin
- Star - A white marking on the forehead that can be any size and shape
- Stripe - A narrow white marking that goes down the middle of the face
- Broken stripe - A stripe that isn’t continuous across the entire face; it gives the appearance of having been divided somewhere in the middle
- Blaze - A wide white marking that goes down the middle of the face
- Snip - A white marking that is typically between the nostrils but can be of varying size and might cover a larger area of the muzzle
- Blaze and Snip - The blaze continues down the face and transitions into a snip
- Star and Stripe - A White marking on the forehead that continues down the face
- Bald Face - A white marking that extends from the muzzle to, or past, the eyes, leaving most of the face white
Stockings
- Stocking - The white area that covers a horse's leg coming up from the hoof
- Full stocking - Extends above the knee or hock, sometimes higher
- High stocking - Extends above the knee or hock, potentially into the body
- Sock (boot) - Extends higher than the fetlock but stops below the knee or hock
- Fetlock - White marking that covers the fetlock joint
- Pastern - White marking that extends from the hoof to just below the fetlock
- Coronet - A small white band just above the hoof, typically no more than one inch high
(High and half (partial) variations exist for these stockings)
